Journal of the Lewis Cass expedition, 1820 May 24-Sept. 1.

Describes the expedition made by Lewis Cass, governor of the Michigan Territory, to visit the Indian tribes in the region. The party traveled from Detroit along Lake St. Clair to Lake Huron, past Sault Ste. Marie and along the Wisconsin shore of Lake Superior, through Minnesota lakes to the headwaters of the Mississippi, down the Mississippi to Prairie du Chien, up the Wisconsin River and Green Bay to Lake Michigan, and thence to Chicago. The journal describes the scenery and events of the voyage, military and political history of places visited, meetings and negotiations with Indians, and observations on mineral resources.
